TVS HLX — 10 Years in Africa
Client: TVS Motor Company
★ Zero shoot days | Fully post-produced | 3D-modelled '10' | African Nations Championship timing
2024-08
Overview
Avakkai Studio created a fully post-produced digital film celebrating TVS HLX's 10-year anniversary in Africa . With no shoot days or live-action footage, the film was built entirely at the edit and VFX desk, featuring a 3D-modelled '10' travelling across the continent through licensed stock footage. Timed around the African Nations Championship, the number carries a dual meaning — ten years of HLX and the jersey number of football heroes — tying the brand's milestone to a moment the whole continent was watching.
Brief
TVS Motor Company needed to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their HLX brand in Africa, timed around the Africa Cup campaign — a moment when the entire continent was watching. The objective was to create a digital film that would honour the brand’s decade-long presence across Africa, connect with the football fever sweeping the continent, and do so within tight constraints: no time to shoot, no live-action production.
The challenge: deliver a cinematic, continent-spanning film entirely in post-production — no unit, no location days, no live-action safety net.
Our Concept & Approach
Avakkai Studio embraced the constraint and turned it into creative opportunity. The concept centred on a single powerful symbol: the number “10” — representing both TVS HLX’s 10 years in Africa and the iconic jersey number worn by football legends across the continent.
The Core Idea: A “10” set loose across the continent — floating over cities, landscapes, and landmarks, travelling until it finds its final home: a jersey.
Production & Technical Approach:
- 3D Modelling: The “10” was modelled in 3D, designed to feel iconic, weightless, and celebratory
- Licensed Stock Footage: Every frame of Africa in the film came from sourced stock footage across multiple African locations
- Tracking & Compositing: The “10” was tracked and composited into each shot to feel like one unbroken flight across the continent, rather than a stitched-together sequence
- Post-Production Only: A film with zero shoot days, built entirely at the edit and VFX desk

Outcome & Results
The campaign demonstrated that a strong concept can survive — and thrive — without a camera on location:
-
Conceptual Strength: The “10” worked on two levels — a decade of HLX and the football jersey number — giving the film a dual meaning it didn’t need to explain
-
Post-Production Excellence: Despite zero shoot days, the film delivered a cinematic, continent-spanning journey through precise tracking, compositing, and 3D animation
-
Perfect Timing: The release around the African Nations Championship gave the “10” immediate cultural resonance, tying the brand’s milestone to a moment the whole continent was watching
-
Efficient Production: Proving that a strong concept doesn’t need a camera on location to land; it needs the idea to be strong enough to survive being built entirely in post
-
Brand Celebration: The film celebrated TVS HLX’s decade of presence across Africa, positioning the brand as deeply connected to the continent’s culture, passion, and moments of unity
